''Old Lao man'' Oil on canvas 20'' by 16'. £185 Unframed Although in some ways quite a simple painting this is one of my favourites. Painted in a fairly impressionistic style the painting retains it's boldness that can sometimes be lost with further work. ( Ref photo courtesy of 'Ben Visbeek' )
''Indian holy man'' Oil on canvas 24'' by 18'. £210 Unframed There were lots of colours to get stuck into in this portrait of an Indian holy man ( called a Saddhu ). This made it a quite complicated but also a very enjoyable painting to work on. ( Ref photo courtesy of 'Tomas Teneketzis' )
''Nepalese basket girl'' Oil on canvas 24'' by 18''. £185 Unframed My mother sent me this photo whilst she was trekking in Nepal. The basket that the young girl has over her head is what is used by the Nepalese porters to carry huge loads up the mountains. As soon as I saw her beaming smile I just had to paint this one.
''Commissioned portrait'' Oil on canvas 16'' by 12''. ( SOLD ) This was a portrait commission. It was painted from a great photograph that had strong side lighting hitting the subject as he was sitting infront of a window, which created quite a dramatic effect of very bright areas contrasting with intensely dark areas.
''Day dreaming'' Oil on canvas 24'' by 18''. £185 Unframed With this painting I tried to give the impression of warm late afternoon sunshine hitting the girl and her friend as they snooze. I used quite a lot of yellows and oranges to achieve this and also some dark but warm shadowing.
''Best Friends'' Oil on canvas 24'' by 18''. ( SOLD ) I loved painting this portrait of a little Tibetan girl and her dog. I guess it's a portrait and a pet portrait all in one really. It's bigger than some of my paintings at 24 by 18 inches, but I needed to use a large canvas to get the composition and detailing as I wanted it.
''Eastern Eyes'' Oil on canvas 16'' by 12''. £120 Unframed I couldn't resist doing this original oil painting of a beautiful Bedouin woman. I couldn't stop looking at her when I'd finished this painting. I'm very happy with the way this came out.
''John'' Oil on canvas 16'' by 12''. ( SOLD ) Here's a portrait painting of a good friend and fellow artist 'John', which was painted as a commission for his daughter. We had great fun taking the reference photos for this painting as we both started laughing. I must have taken thirty photos before getting John looking natural.
"Ernie" Oil on canvas 16'' by 12''. ( SOLD ) This was one of my pet portrait commissions. A young black Labrador called 'Ernie'. I tried to capture his strong but gentle nature which comes across mainly in his big brown eyes.
''Bedouin Woman'' Oil on canvas 16'' by 12''. (SOLD) Here's a portrait painting that really enjoyed. There was quite a lot of detail on the clothing to get stuck into, and lots of highlights on the hair and shiny stitching. I'm happy with her expression too.
"Pippin" Oil on canvas paper 13'' by 8''. (GIFTED) This is a pet portrait Jack Russell painting of my sisters dog. I took a quick photograph of her in a friends arms as she stopped moving for a millisecond and worked from that.
''Russ'' Oil on canvas paper 16'' by 13''. (GIFTED) This a portrait painting of my friend and fishing buddy Russell. It was painted from a photograph which was taken whilst we were fishing just north of Cardigan west Wales. He was actually holding a fish at the time but it was bigger than the one I caught...so I left it out.
"Lab Pup" Oil on canvas 16'' by 12''. (SOLD) I love dog paintings and growing up on a farm in wales we always had Labradors, so I enjoyed trying to capture those soulful eyes and the soft fluffy fur they have when they're youngsters in this Labrador puppy painting.
"Pip n' Tam" Oil on canvas Paper 16'' by 13''. (SOLD) This pet portrait was painted as a commission for a friend of mine, and yes, they really did pose like that in the photo. |
